Iran Responds to U.S. Proposal, Source Says
TEHRAN- Iran delivered a formal response on Wednesday night to a 15-point proposal put forward by the United States, according to a source familiar with the matter who spoke to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The response was sent through intermediaries, the source said, and Tehran now awaits Washington’s reply. In its submission, Iran outlined several conditions, including demands that what it called the enemy’s “aggressive acts of assassination” must cease, and that concrete measures be put in place to prevent a recurrence of war.
The response also called for clearly defined war reparations and insisted that an end to hostilities be applied across all fronts and include all resistance groups that have taken part in the conflict, according to the source.
Iran also asserted that its sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz is a “natural and legal right” and must be recognized as a guarantee of the other party’s commitments, the source said. Those demands are separate from issues raised during a second round of nuclear negotiations held in Geneva days before the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli military campaign in February, the source added.
The source described the American overture as part of a “third deception” project, accusing Washington of pursuing multiple goals under the guise of diplomacy: projecting a peaceful image to the international community, keeping global oil prices low, and buying time to prepare for a potential ground invasion in southern Iran.
Iran’s trust in the credibility of U.S. negotiations has eroded, the source said, particularly after the 12-day war in June 2025 and the broader conflict that followed.
“The Americans started the war while negotiating,” the source said. “This time as well, they are seeking to pave the way for new crimes under the false pretense of negotiations.”
